The Under-Secretary of State."
Foreign Office,

Sir,

COL. OFFICE
FOREIGN OFFICE.
S.V.1.
29th March, 1932.

With reference to Foreign Office letter W 898/374/17
of the 29th January last I am directed by Secretary Sir John
Simon to state, for the information of the Secretary of State
for the Colonies, that a member of the French Embassy recently
called at this department to discuss the case of Nguyen ai Quoc.
Monsieur Truelle stated that the French Government

had heard that it is likely that judgment will be given in
favour of Quoc and presume that in this event he will be
released. In view of his dangerous character the French
Government are anxious to be able to keep track of his movements
if he is released. They would therefore be grateful if they
could be informed beforehand of the date when judgment in Quoc's
case will be delivered and if the French Consul in Hongkong
might also be kept informed. They would, furthermore, be
grateful for the earliest information regarding the nature of
the judgment.
3.
It was pointed out to Monsieur Truelle that it was
unlikely that information regarding the nature of the judgment
would be available before the judgment was actually passed, but
the Secretary of State will be grateful if he may be informed
whether it is possible to inform the French Government and
the French Consul in Hongkong of the date on which judgment
will be delivered.
The Under-Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
CITOnsmith
